Automotive shutdown, Birmingham violence, Southern Baptists: Down in Alabama

From today’s Down in Alabama podcast:

We’ve heard the phrase “pent-up demand” from a lot of people over the past eight or 10 months -- and in that time the federal government has certainly pumped dollars into stimulating the demand side -- but since the COVID-related shutdowns we’ve faced continuous supply-line interruptions.

Chicken, lumber, labor in some industries.

And, of course, computer chips. There can be upwards of 150 chips in a vehicle, and experts have estimated that the semiconductor shortage might affect the production of four million vehicles in 2021.

On today’s briefing we’ll talk about how that’s affecting Alabama’s automotive industry this week in the form of a shutdown. We’ll also talk about violent crime in Birmingham and Alabama connections in today’s Southern Baptist Convention vote.
